<----- Go To Part 1

Tip 3: Deleting a Chroot(crouton installation) with Powerwashing the Chromebook

Sometimes you may want to delete your crouton installation for a various reason but don’t necessarily want to transfer all your files and powerwash the Chromebook. Thankfully there is an easy solution to remove a chroot environment and free up your space to reinstall a different version or maybe just stick with Chrome OS.

First open up “shell” on the Chrome OS side of things by pressing CRTL + ALT + T on your Chromebook keyboard followed by the word shell when the prompt has loaded in the browser window. Now you will want to type or copy and paste the following:

sudo delete-chroot evilchroot

(Replace “chrootname” with the name of your’s. ex; precise,raring,saucy..etc)

There you have it, a quick one line solution to free you of that “Evil Chroot” ;).

Tip 4: Install Crouton With Keyboard Extensions

One thing about the various tutorials floating around with how to install Crouton on a google Chromebook is the lack of adding support for keyboards. When you are installing crouton you may want to type the following which will install “raring”(Ubuntu 13.04) with the proper keyboard support for volume and brightness controls.

First open up “shell” on the Chrome OS side of things by pressing CRTL + ALT + T on your Chromebook keyboard followed by the word shell when the prompt has loaded in the browser window. Now you will want to type or copy and paste the following:

sudo sh -e ~/Downloads/crouton -t xfce,keyboard,extension - r raring

(Replace “xfce” with “unity” if you prefer that desktop environment)

This will take a minute or two longer than the “standard” installation of crouton (Ubuntu 12.04).

Tip 5: Knowing Where To Look

Problems happen from time to time and finding answers might be hard, so here is a list of a few places you should bookmark in your browser. Remember, these will always be saved in the bookmarks section of the Google account you are signed in with, even if you powerwash the Chromebook.
