In Hollywood, it is not uncommon for a celebrity to demand 5, 10 or 20 million dollars to appear in a film. These big budget films put a lot on the line all in the hopes the high paid actor will draw in huge audiences. The idea is to make that investment pay off. Unfortunately, there are plenty of names that demand huge salaries and actually get them without bringing in the audience the studio hoped for. There are plenty of Hollywood names who are famous and still raking in the dough because they used to be somebody. Now, they are nothing more than a name and have failed to earn their massive paychecks. Forbes has put together a list of the 10 Most Overpaid Actors and it may shock you.

The bottom 5 in the top 10 list include such names as, Ryan Reynolds, Matt Damon, Jennifer Aniston, Steve Carell and Denzel Washington. How in the world is Ryan Reynolds on that list or Matt Damon? Those two seem to be incredibly successful. And Denzel?! Jennifer Aniston isn’t really a big surprise. She is probably the most famous lady on the entire list, but she has really only been involved in a few movies that have made a big, despite a long list of films she has actually worked on. Her notoriety comes from her sting on Friends and that marriage to Brad Pitt. Despite not having any real box office draw, she still held her own in the numbers game.

Now, the top 5 names are not quite as surprising. Forbes based their ranking on how well the film did in theaters and how much the lead actor was paid. After doing a bunch of number crunching, they determined what the return investment was for those films.

No. 5-Kevin James made last year’s most bang for the buck list, but his film, Here Comes the Boom, killed his value. The studios earned about $6.10 for every dollar he was paid on the film. The folks like Jennifer Aniston and Matt Damon earned about $10 for every dollar paid.

No. 4-Nicolas Cage earned $6.00 for every dollar paid. His star quality has tanked over the years as he joins the slew of actors aging out of the business.

No. 3-Reese Witherspoon is going through what most young, beautiful actresses who make their name in romantic comedies go through. She is getting older and doesn’t quite fit the bill of a 20-something looking to fall in love. She brought in $3.90 for every dollar. Reese has her own production company and is working on smaller films in order to expand her resume while staying in the business.

No. 2-Katherine Heigl fell off that pedestal she climbed up on pretty hard. It is no surprise her star power went out as quick as it lit up. She brought in $3.50 for every dollar she was paid.

And last, but not least is the Razzie King—Adam Sandler. The man used to be one of the biggest names in the business, but now he is laughed at. He had two major flops, Jack and Jill and That’s My Boy were horrible. It knocked his earning power to a sad $3.40 for every dollar paid.
