BMW reveal details of the NEW 2 Series coupe models on Thursday, The official debut of the 2 Series will be in January, at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
The 2 Series coupe will come in two trim levels, the 228i and the more powerful performance-oriented M235i. The 228i has 240-horsepower turbocharged 2-liter 4-cyclinder engine, while the M variant has 315-horsepower turbocharged in-line 6 cylinder.
BMW says the 228i will go from zero to 60 miles per hour in 5.4 seconds to a top speed of 130 miles per hour when equipped with the 8-speed automatic transmission. However, the 8-speed equipped M235i will hit 60 miles per hour in 4.8 seconds, with a top speed of 155 miles per hour.
Usually, more miles per hour equates to less miles per gallon, however it’s not the case with the Series 2 coupes. The 228i has a preliminary E.P.A. fuel economy estimate of 23 miles per gallon in the city and 35 highways for the automatic models, and 22 city/34 highways for cars with the 6-speed manual. Preliminary E.P.A. estimates for the M235i are only slightly less impressive for a subcompact car with such solid performance numbers: 22 city/32 highways for the 8-speed automatic and 19 city/28 highways for the 6-speed manual.
BMW says the 2 Series coupe will integrate Internet-based services into cars as well with capabilities of smartphone apps. The prices will start at $33,025 for the 228i and $44,025 for the M235i, along with destination and handling charges.
