NBA-- Two MVP candidates and off the court friends squared off on the court for the 1st of March, going into overtime it was the Houston Rockets that took the win. Both players were playing without their second best teammate in Dwight Howard for the Rockets and Kyrie Irving for the Cavaliers. Although both James and Harden were tied for minutes, rebounds and close on points, James Harden made his two free throws in overtime whereas LeBron James missed both of his.

The big talk of the game unfortunately wasn't even a basketball play as James Harden took a cheap shot and kicked LeBron James in the groin. The two were fighting for the ball as Harden was on the ground and LeBron was reaching in for the strip. That’s when Harden threw out his foot and tagged LeBron in the groin who then stepped back and reached down with pain on his face.

In slow motion it doesn't look that bad to be honest, but any man will be quick to say that this is a low blow and has always been an unwritten rule that it is against the rules for every situation, be it basketball or something else. A flagrant foul was assessed to Harden after the kick and after the game LeBron James said, “obviously that is not a basketball play,... obviously the league will probably take a look at it. I have no idea why he would do that, but two competitors just trying to go at it, and he won this one.”

Harden was quick to downplay the situation after the game though, saying “He’s a very good friend off the court,...obviously it’s a battle and just trying to win a basketball game. Just competition against one of the best players in the world.”

With James Harden going to the line more than any other player over the past few seasons he should be also quick to note that throwing a dirty foul in should not be apart of the game. I suspect a fine will be coming his way in the next few days and I would go as far as saying that it completely eliminated him from the MVP race. Sorry but kicking someone in the groin(on purpose) isn’t something any MVP should have on their resume.
