Kesha has become a victim of the show business machine and has entered rehab to get help with an eating disorder. Celebrities and rehab go hand in hand. The high pressure to be perfect is often too much and many celebrities turn to alcohol and drugs to cope with the demands. Women have a tremendous amount of pressure to be thin and beautiful and often find themselves snared by an eating disorder.
For years, Kesha has bucked tradition and maintained a healthy weight. Her weight has been one of those things she has always said she is comfortable with. She is a little thicker than some of the other singers in her genre, but it worked for her. With the release of her latest album, Kesha reappeared looking thinner than she ever has. She looked good and healthy at the start of 2013.
However, as the year wore on, it was plain to see she was losing a great deal of weight. Her most recent video for her song, “Dirty Love,” further showcases her weight loss. While it does not look like she is skin and bones, it is pretty evident she has been steadily dropping the weight. Apparently, she wasn’t doing it the healthy way. In Pitbull’s video for “Timber,” Kesha seemed to be proud of her much thinner body and was flaunting in a variety of different outfits that covered very little.
Her face is noticeably thinner and her eyes have a bit of an empty look that is characteristic of somebody who is not healthy. On New Year’s Eve, she tweeted about how great 2014 was going to be, but never mentioned her eating disorder or the fact that she was quietly suffering. Early Friday morning, she released a statement announcing her plans. “I'm a crusader for being yourself and loving yourself, but I've found it hard to practice,” she wrote. Not eating drains your energy and with her busy career, that just isn’t feasible. Too often celebrities turn to drugs to give them fake energy because of their poor eating habits.
Apparently, she lost her way and fortunately, somebody on her team must have told her she was heading into dangerous territory. “I'll be unavailable for the next 30 days, seeking treatment for my eating disorder ... to learn to love myself again, exactly as I am.” Back in June of last year, Kesha gave an interview in Self magazine where she talked about her diet and her grueling workout regimen. She alluded to her self-confidence issues and expressed the desire to want to look good when she was on stage every night.
Hopefully, she can work through the body confidence issues she was clearly suffering from. She is lucky she caught it early. Kesha has entered Timberline Knolls located outside Chicago. This is the same facility Demi Lovato retreated to to get the help she needed for her own demons. Thirty days is not that long. She will likely need outpatient therapy for some time to make sure she eats right and doesn’t fall back into the same habits.
