Manchester United Pulled Off The Win, But Only Just

Manchester United Vs Southampton Post Match Review - DMG Weekly Sport

EPL-- Manchester United were looking to continue their winning streak, whereas Southampton were looking to bounce back after a string of bad results. With both teams looking to take sole possession of 3rd place in the EPL up to this point, this matchup was going to be one decided by who was going to capitalize on the oppositions mistakes best.

Right from the first whistle it was Southampton who was in control of the game and the first opportunity to get on the score-sheet, Although it was a mistake in the back by the home team that saw Robin Van Persie intercept a bad pass, which resulted in the Red Devils taking the lead early. 20 minutes later saw the home team grab an equalizer as Manchester United fell apart and made some horrible mistakes and gifted Southampton with a few chances at making the goal happen.

The second half did fair to better as Southampton looked the batter team, and a quick glance at the shots saw one team had all the opportunities. Southampton had a total of 15 shots while 4 were on target(1 was a goal) and Manchester United on the other hand had only 3 shots and 2 of them were for goals. So as you can tell the home team had the upper hand for the entire match, with as much as 60% possession at one point in the match as well.

The game winner came from a set-piece that saw Wayne Rooney whip in a nice cross to the back corner who had the flying Dutchman soaring in to knock home the header into the back of the net. It was a perfectly timed finish that had the striker grinning from ear to ear and fans just the same.

The game could have been a draw and the home team looked the better side if I were to be honest, however in the end all that matters is the win, which Manchester United got and took their streak to 5 in a row.

Player of the Game: Robin Van Persie

Worst Player: Marcos Rojo
