Martha Stewart is the queen of the Holly Homemakers. She is the idol housewives everywhere look up to. She manages to make drab to fab with a glue gun and some what nots. She gardens, she cooks, she decorates and she is all of that (even an ex-convict). It seems somebody has their eyes set on becoming the next Martha Stewart and the woman is less than pleased. Gwyneth Paltrow seems to be gunning for Stewart’s place in the all-American woman’s homes with her GOOP business.
Gwyneth Paltrow has pretty much abandoned her job as an actress and has been devoting a lot of time and energy to GOOP. She has tried to make her brand into the Martha Stewart of the 2000-teens. And although many have tried to get Stewart to say something negative about Paltrow, she manages to tiptoe around the subject without ever actually insulting the young lady. However, it is still pretty obvious she can toss out snide remarks with the best of them.
Recently, a paparazzo did his best to get Martha Stewart fired up over the whole idea Gwyneth Paltrow is still her rival. Stewart wasn’t really falling for it, but her attitude pretty much said it all. When asked who the better lifestyle coach was, Stewart looked a little irritated. She answered, “Oh, for heaven's sake, you have to have lived to be a coach.” Was that a dig at Gwyneth? It could have been a reference to the actress’s rather newness to the whole lifestyle thing and her 41 years compared to Stewart’s 72 years.
Martha Stewart is the original lifestyle lady. Gwyneth Paltrow is slowly treading behind her and trying to imitate the lifestyle guru in a lot of ways. However, don’t expect to see Paltrow digging in the garden or using a drill to build something out of wood. She likes to brag about how thin she is and how she essentially starves herself. Easy to do when you have a personal chef. Even then, if you choose to eat nothing that is your deal and it isn’t exactly healthy.
Gwyneth Paltrow will never achieve what Martha Stewart has simply because she presents herself as the perfect woman. Stewart is flawed and although she is a domestic goddess, she isn’t perfect. And she makes food a normal human would eat (most of the time). Despite Stewart’s advancing age, she doesn’t seem ready to give up her reign at the top anytime soon and is holding her own in the lifestyle war.
Of course, Martha Stewart insists there are no hard feelings between her and Gwyneth Paltrow, but how can she not dislike her even a teency weency bit? She is careful with her words, but what she doesn’t say is enough. A couple months back when asked again about Paltrow’s desire to become the Martha Stewart of the younger generation, she complimented the blonde actress and then said, “If she's authentic, all the better.” Yeah, that kind of negated the “she’s a charming, pretty person” comment.
Martha Stewart may have more competition in the race to be the ultimate lifestyle guru. Blake Lively is also throwing her hat into the mix. This could get interesting.
