According to a report issued by the Napa Police, a mother and her boyfriend have been arrested for the murder of the woman's 3-year-old daughter who was found dead in her Napa apartment. The police report stated that, Kayleigh Slusher was found dead in the apartment on Saturday afternoon around 1 p.m. by police officers who were conducting a welfare check in response to an anonymous tip they received in regards to the family in question.
Napa police said that the young girl's body showed evidence of sexual assault. The victim's mother, Sara Krueger, was reportedly seen leaving the area with Ryan Warner about three-hours before the police arrived. Photos were released of the couple when they were spotted at the Bay Area Rapid Transit station the next day where they were swiftly arrested.
Lt. Debbie Peecook said, “The police would seek to have Krueger and Warner charged with homicide with special circumstances and assault resulting in a child’s death.”
For a crime of this magnitude the Napa County prosecutors would allow a life sentence in prison without parole with the possibility of the death penalty if prosecutors decide to pursue capital punishment.
The San Francisco Chronicle reported, that Jason Slusher, who is Kayleigh’s father, is currently serving a prison sentence in San Quentin. Friends and family of the victim held a candlelight vigil on Sunday to mourn the tragic loss of such a young life.
John Kreuger, the victim's Grandfather, told KGO-TV, “You can’t imagine what I’m going through. The proudest moment of my life is gone forever and there’s nothing we can do or say that’s going to bring her back.”
An apartment manager, who also spoke to the TV station, said that she and other neighbors had suspected the couple was using drugs and that they had hardly ever seen the girl play outside anymore.
