A Navy base in Tennessee was locked down Thursday afternoon due to a shooting incident that wounded two people. The Navy reported, “on Thursday afternoon a suspect was put in custody and the base was not under an active shooter.”
CNN reported, “a National Guardsman got into a fight with two other soldiers on base. One reportedly pulled a gun, striking one man in the foot and the second in the leg.” The lockdown ended 90 minutes after the incident.
The Navy base is located in Millington, near Memphis, one of Tennessee’s largest employers. The Navy base employees more than 7,500 military and civilians, which serves as a center for Navy personnel, logistical support, recruiting and as a finance center for the Army Corps of Engineers.
This incident comes six weeks after Aaron Alexis fatally shot 12 people and injured three others in a shooting at the Navy Yard in Washington, D.C.
