According to The Hollywood Reporter, Queen Latifah will be singing America the Beautiful during the pre-game festivities prior to kickoff at the Super Bowl. Latifah will be joining National Anthem singer Renee Fleming before the game commences between the Seattle Seahawks and the Denver Broncos. The championship game is to be held in East Rutherford, N.J.
Latifah, 43, performed this song during the 2010 Super Bowl however, this time it will be a far more memorable performance for the Garden State Native. Latifah was born in Newark, NJ and was raised in East Orange New Jersey. This year's performance will be not only in front of a worldwide audience but it will also be from her home state.
Last year, the Super Bowl was the most watched program in history in the United States with over 164 million views.
Latifah has just launched her own talk show called The Queen Latifah Show and recently presided over a massive wedding ceremony of 33 couples during Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' hit single, Same Love at the 2014 Grammy Awards.
During last year's Super Bowl, Jennifer Hudson sang America the Beautiful accompanied by some students from Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newton, Connecticut. The elementary school that had recently been through an unthinkable tragedy when twenty children and six staff members were shot and killed just days before Christmas.
The Super Bowl kicks off on Sunday, February 2, 2014 at 6:30pm EST at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. and will be televised on Fox.
