Review: “If I Stay” by Gale Forman (Book)

Review: “If I Stay” by Gale Forman (Book)

Books are meant to take readers out of their everyday lives and into a new world, which gives them an escape. Reading is relaxing, fun and often times full of adventures, especially if one is reading a science fiction or fantasy book. So when this writer was searching for a new book to read, after having finished the entire Mortal Instruments series, the book If I Stay by Gayle Forman stuck out among the rest.

A well-written emotional ride of tragedy and triumph are what make up the pages of this touching story by Forman. Geared toward the young adult genre, If I Stay, is a story about a young girl named Mia who’s entire family is killed in a car accident and now, having an out of body experience, Mia must decide whether she will let go and follow her family to whatever comes after life or stay with those still left in the land of the living.

The decision whether to stay or go is one that the young cello virtuoso is having much difficult with because what she would leave behind, if she went, is her loving grandparents, best friend and the love of her life, budding rock star, Adam. Of course, living without her entire family isn’t a great option either.

The book reviews the pros and cons of each choice and allows the reader to bury themselves inside Mia’s world and revisit some of her happier times with her parents, younger brother, Teddy and of course with Adam. It is important, in a book, to keep the readers guessing and never to let them off the hook and that is exactly what this book does from the first sentence to the last.

If you’re into fiction books with a young adult nudge, a book that has edge and gives you something different then this writer highly recommends you get Gayle Forman’s If I Stay.

*On August 22, 2014 this incredible book series will be released as a major motion picture!
