Thanksgiving is right around the corner, okay it’s more like two weeks around the corner, and families are already preparing their plans for the food filled day. While Thanksgiving is about giving thanks for the things we are most grateful for in life; it is equally, if not more, about the delicious food we get to stuff our faces with for one whole day.
Everyone knows the traditional and mouth watering Thanksgiving meals such as turkey, string bean casserole, yams with marshmallows, stuffing and cranberry sauce but what about the less traditional and quite off-the-wall Thanksgiving foods that, despite what one believe, actually make it to the Thanksgiving table? Let’s take a look at some of the more unusual foods one might serve at their Thanksgiving dinner.
Turducken – Surprisingly enough this has become a relatively popular dish. It is precisely as it sounds, turkey stuffed with duck stuffed with chicken. This has become a recent and amusing Thanksgiving tradition that only the bravest of food adventurers will be willing to try.
Tofurky & Gravy Soda – No there is nothing wrong with your eyes, you are reading this correctly. Some Thanksgiving food/beverage items include this soda drink by the Jones Company. This soda comes in a variety of flavors aside from the unappetizing name listed about. Some other flavors include: Mashed Potato & Butter, Green Bean Casserole, Fruitcake and Cranberry. However before you swear this drink off remember, don’t judge a book by its cover, this could end up being your new favorite Thanksgiving beverage.
Turkey Layer Cake – Doesn’t sound like the most appetizing cake now does it? The cake is filled with layers of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, a little bit of oatmeal and topped off with marshmallows. Despite how gross this dish might sound the finished product is certainly delicious.
Ham and Banana Casserole – Casserole’s seem to be created from just about any and all ingredients. This particular casserole is no different. The combination of ham and bananas however seems to be a bit of stretch even for the Turducken lovers of the world.
Turkey With Anchovies – Yes, you read it correctly, turkey with anchovies! That would be fish combined with turkey and if you are half as disgusted as this writer is then we are definitely on the same page!
There is plenty of interesting Thanksgiving traditions, recipes and other food items but the above are definitely some of the more interesting. Do you have any interesting or off-the-wall Thanksgiving traditions or foods?
